During the Annual Youth Fellowship of all Jireh churches, Several of the discharged clients were present and joined the activity. Upon seeing several of them, the directress then organized a gathering where all the discharged kids were invited. They were all happy and so excited of what each and everyone had to say about their lives outside Jireh. Most of them were already employed at the different companies in Davao City and in Samal Island as well. But what made JHC proud is that there were several from among them who still go to church and even help in the church ministry. They were all so pleased that they talked to our directress and said that they would like to have a reunion somewhere in November to be held at the place of their childhood, a place which they called a “Home” and be able to fellowship again with the Jireh community and of course with the people who took care of them, specially the Rev. & Mrs. Fred Castillo whom they still call “mommy” & “daddy” up to this time. They were also excited as they plan to prepare food for the present clients of the home and invite all of the other kids whom they once called “igsuon” or siblings. One of them said that if not because of Jireh and all the people who supported them, where would they be now? The reunion is full of bliss and reminiscing good memories.

FISHING AT THE BEACH

The kids really love going to the beach, they always ask “when are we going to the beach?” so due to their love for the beach, a plan was devised for the kids to go to the beach but at the same time learn something. That they will learn what a fisherman’s life is. How they catch fish, how they eat everyday, etc. Jireh asked a help from a fisherman to teach the kids everything. We acquired a spear gun to shoot the fishes with, teming (small fish net made with bamboo strings), fish hooks and nylons for fishing. But the kids became very creative, they made their own equipments. We all got up early at 5am then we went to the beach around 7:30am. We all did what a fisherman does before going  fishing, first we made camp, the kids gather firewood, we cooked rice first, then simple rule of the fisherman, you eat what you catch. So then while we cooked rice the kids now went on to catch fish and kinhasun (edible meat-sea shells). Luckily around 11am the kids caught a lot of fish and sea shells. We cooked it and had it for lunch, the same routine happened in the afternoon, we depart around 5pm. The kids were so tired but still they gather themselves and talked about their experiences and they did learned a lot, some even say I don’t want to be a fisherman that’s why I will really strive hard in school and make my mother’s, father’s, and supporter’s happy and proud, that maybe someday I can help the fishermen make their lives more easier.
